SUMMARY:St. Joseph Michigan Farmer's Market 2023
DESCRIPTION:Southwest Michigan is the 2nd most agriculturally diverse climate in America\, and our farmer’s markets reflect that.  The Saint Joseph Farmer’s Market is one of the best.  Saturday mornings from late May through mid-October\, you can grab ripe\, succulent fruits and vegetables\, and also jams\, honey\, hearth-baked breads and fine pastries\, perennials\, cut flowers\, organic vegetables and many other fun things. \nThe vendors there love to chat and share their recipes\, planting recommendations and cooking tips. Also\, plan to visit with several friends since the number of people attending this weekly event has continued to grow over the last few years. It’s a Saturday tradition!

SUMMARY:Chesterton European Market and a Beach Visit in the Dunes National Park
DESCRIPTION:Euro Market starting at 10:15 ET\nbeach at 1:00 ET \nas of Friday evening\, no rain is forecast for Saturday till evening\, but please check this announcement in the morning to make sure out schedule hasn’t changed. \nfor anyone who comes late but hasn’t met us\, Rick will be wearing a blue hat that says “GREECE” on it; Eileen will be wearing a straw hat with a black band. \nthis event is sponsored jointly with Rick’s Hiking and Fun Group https://www.meetup.com/Ricks-Hiking-Fun-Group/ . \ndear friends– \ni planned to schedule a low key visit to the lakefront on Saturday\, July 1 for one more opportunity to enjoy some beach time at the height of summer. Eileen said she plans to come\, but will be visiting the weekly Chesterton European Market beforehand\, so we decided to combine these two activities into a Saturday event. \nthe European Market https://www.dunelandchamber.org/european-market is a very successful Farmer’s Market+ that occurs in the park in downtown Chesterton every Saturday in the summer and beyond. check the website above for directions and hours. \nEileen will wait near the park bandshell rotunda from 10:15-10:30 ET. if you don’t know her\, look for a friendly woman with a black-banded straw hat. if you come later than that\, or can’t find her\, you may text her at 773-543-0316. \nyou may go to the European Market portion of the event with or without going to the beach afterwards\, and vice versa. \nif you want to go to the beach–whether you’ve been to the Euro Market or not–come to my house at 1:00 ET. \nthe summer parking crunch anywhere near the beach in the Dunes requires that we park at my house for any weekend event\, and the closest beach is the Beverly Shores town beach at Broadway\, a walk of about 3/4 mile. \nwe will meet at my house\, JUST FOR PARKING\, and walk straight down Broadway to Beverly Shores Town Beach\, descend the new town steps\, and set up on the sand for a nice afternoon on the Hoosier Riviera. i have a town parking permit\, so i can drive down with people’s gear\, as long as they can CARRY IT BACK to their CARS If they want to leave before or after i do. \nthere is a restroom and drinking water at Lakeview beach\, a few hundred feet to the west. there are also restrooms at the South Shore station\, and the Marathon gas station on the way in. \nBe sure to check the weather beforehand\, and dress appropriately . bring along some snacks which we will eat at the beach\, plus enough water (one quart minimum)\, a hat with a brim\, sunscreen\, etc. \nmake sure that you KNOW THE WAY BACK TO YOUR CAR\, since we will be leaving on our own time and not as a group. \ni will pass a hat for a small donation to cover expenses: mostly\, this is the cost of using the meetup website\, but sometimes I need some dinero to pay for occasional gifts to neighbors who let us use their parking\, prizes for contests\, etc. as long as i can cover this with people putting $2-3 in a can\, i prefer not doing anything more binding or complicated. \ni also encourage you all to take and post pictures to the site\, especially if you go to the Market\, since i’m not going. if you don’t know how to post to the site\, text pictures to me\, and i will post them. \nif you have symptoms of\, or have recently tested positive for Covid-19 (or any other contagious disease)\, please DO NOT ATTEND. \nalso bring a mask for situations where we might need one (eg\, using a crowded restroom\, or getting a ride in someone else’s car). \ni look forward to seeing you there for another fun summer together\, \nRick \ndirections & parking instructions: \navoid the intersection of IN 49 & US 12 because of summer traffic jams; go west on US 12; then right onto Broadway (traffic light opposite National Park campground); continue about 3/4 mile\, and turn left at Marne\, go to 11 w Marne–a gray\, three story house set back rather far from the road; street parking is not allowed in Beverly Shores\, but you can park in the off-street spaces across the road from us\, or in front of our neighbor to the east (towards Broadway); pull straight into the spaces and park as close together as you safely can; DO NOT block anyone in! \ndo not park in my driveway unless i tell you to. also do not block my neighbors’ driveways. \nonce you have parked\, come to my front porch and take one of the parking permits there. put it in your car window facing the road. \nif all spaces are taken\, let me know–you will NEED to DRIVE BACK to the South Shore train station parking lot. Erin has graciously volunteered to shuttle people from the train station to my house or to the beach. remember\, you will have a return walk down Broadway of over a mile to the station…but we ARE a hiking group. \nwe will wait till 1:30 ET\, then depart on foot.

SUMMARY:Miniature Train Rides at Eden Springs Park
DESCRIPTION:We have a working railway here at Eden Springs Park! Charming and authentic\, these original House of David engines and passenger cars have been lovingly restored by our team of volunteers and train experts. Train rides are available Saturdays & Sundays in July through Labor Day weekend from noon to 5:00 pm – $3 per person\, with kids 3 & under free. The miniature trains have a long-standing history with the park. House of David colony workers laid the 15-inch gauge track\, built both the gas powered and steam powered engines and ran the park until the early 1970’s. The whistles from the steam engine trains echoed through the valley until the park was closed down. The area is rich with history and lore. A volunteer is generally available to give walking tours through the park on request. Eden Springs amusement park was established in 1908 by The Israelite House of David\, and attracted visitors by the car load until closing in the mid -1970’s. The park boasted a zoological park with a bear\, lions\, monkeys\, birds and more\, gold fish ponds\, a miniature auto raceway\, a bowling alley\, outdoor amphitheater that provided family entertainment throughout the week\, as well as an outdoor beer garden\, photo booths\, glorious garden displays\, and the miniature trains. The trains were so successful that the first year 70\,000 tickets were sold. Come make a memory with your family! \nAdmission: $3 per person (children under 3 free) \n\nContact: Eden Springs Park at House of David | (269) 927 3302 | historic.edenspringspark@gmail.com

Known for her exceptional tone\, intoxicating melodies\, and flawless technique\, she is one of the most sought-after flutists in both the classical and jazz fields. The contemporary jazz superstar has an ever-growing base fan base garnered from her continued presence on the performance scene and from her visibility as radio host of the nationally syndicated\, two-hour jazz program\, “Kim Scott’s Block Party Radio”\, which airs weekly across the world. She’s a fresh image and sounds for today’s contemporary jazz scene. \nAlex Bugnon (7:10 pm – 8:10 pm)- Is a prolific\, energetic force on the contemporary music scene for almost three decades. No doubt\, the annual convergence in his hometown and in his own home\, of some of music’s most illustrious names played a role in his decision to pursue a musical career\, as did his early friendship with Herbie Hancock. The fact that his uncle was the legendary Donald Byrd only served to further his decision. \nHis first album\, Love Season (1989) catapulted the virtual unknown to prominence and set him on his musical course. The album rocketed to number 2 on the R&B charts\, was nominated for best jazz album at the Soul Train Awards\, and earned him Black Radio Exclusive’s\, Best New Artist Award. \nVincent Ingala (8:30 pm- 10:00 pm)-Vincent Ingala burst on the Contemporary Jazz scene in 2010 with the release of his critically heralded debut North End Soul. Two years later he was crowned Billboard “Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year” and Sirius XM Watercolors’ “Breakthrough Artist of The Year” in 2013. Ingala’s sophomore recording\, Can’t Stop Now\, was released in 2012 and Coast To Coast followed in 2015\, featuring two singles that hit #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. Vincent Ingala featured his vocal-driven Christmas in 2016\, showcasing holiday classics.
