Looking for French Toast, Eggs Bennie or a lil hair-of-the-dog mimosa? We’ve got you covered with our top ideas for brunch in southwest Michigan.
Hunger calls.
Your groggy attempt to ignore it, to brush it away like the hair from your sheet-imprinted face, proves unproductive. Maybe it was a late night. Maybe it was an early night. It’s the weekend; there is absolutely no judgment here. Your eyes pop open and a smile stretches from ear to ear as you sleepily realize what time it is:
It’s Brunch Time.
Too late for breakfast, too early for lunch, brunch is our newest obsession. But I’m not mad about it! Brunch is a culinary free-for-all that pleases even the pickiest of eaters– Pastries. Seasonal Vegetables. Quiche. French Toast. Po-ta-toes. Traditional egg-and-bacon breakfasts. Maple syrup on everything. Plus, bloody Mary’s.
The chance to brag about it all on Instagram is a required bonus.
The only question remains: where can you experience this perfect mid-late-morning-slash-early-afternoon feast?
We’ve got some brunch in Southwest Michigan suggestions for you.
Bentwood Tavern inside the Marina Grand Hotel, New Buffalo
bentwoodtavern.com
This is one of my most favorite restaurants in Berrien County! Funky fresh decor and moody furniture only enhances the Brunch lifestyle. Their wonderfully crafted cocktails add a Treat-Yo-Self feel, and knowing they source from local farms and businesses makes your morning even sweeter. When the weather permits, they offer patio/waterside dining, views of the marina– I mean, what’s not to love? With online ordering, contact-free curbside pick up, and bottles to-go, Bentwood Tavern makes your weekend perfect.
Ginny’s Place, Niles
Ginny’s Place Facebook
The service is friendly, the pancakes are giant, and the menu is nostalgic. Perched on Wayne Street, and currently open on the weekends, this is the place to feed your breakfast and lunch cravings. Call in your order and pick it up curbside! Check their facebook page for daily specials and menu changes.
Plank’s Tavern On The Water, at the Inn at Harbor Shores, St. Joseph
https://www.harborshoresresort.com/the-inn/planks-tavern
The weekend menu at Plank’s Tavern offers all of the essentials including my favorites: eggs, wraps, burgers, coffees, juices. This means I can enjoy a salad AND an omelette. (Because brunch has no rules.)
With online ordering, a heated patio for outdoor seating, and beverages to-go, Plank’s has you covered from 9am on, both Saturday and Sunday!
Mason Jar Cafe, Benton Harbor
masonjarcafe.com
The best part about about a 9am – 3pm restaurant is that it is pretty much all brunch, all the time. Cold-pressed juices and superfood lattes flow all day long. Local ingredients, scratch-made fare, and plenty of gluten-free and vegan options make this a perfect spot for everyone regardless of dietary needs. Mason Jar Cafe offers outdoor dining pods, available with a reservation, but if your mouth waters just scrolling through the menu, online ordering and carryout is an option too! Don’t forget to follow them on social media to check their specials: the quiche combinations, soups, and ever-changing dinner specials keep you on your toes.
