This will be a great paddle. We will meet at New Buffalo Beach and paddle out & back on the Galien River Water Trail. We will paddle 1 1/2 hours out then turn around and come back. Back at the beach, we can either sit on the beach and watch the sunset or, if calm enough, take the kayaks to the lake and watch it from there.
Parking at the New Buffalo Beach is $7.50 for 3 hours. It is free after 8:00 pm. (Therefore getting there at 6:00, it is 7.50 until it closes.)
Sunset time is 9:23.
**About Galien River Water Trail**
The water trail is approximately a six-mile section of the river. It starts at New Buffalo Township’s Glassman Park (off Glassman Road), the next access is Department of Natural Resources (DNR) boat launch on Red Arrow Highway north of U.S. 12 (near Kruger Road) and ends at the City of New Buffalo’s public boat launch. The boat launch is across the street from the City’s beach along Lake Michigan and a short walk into the City of New Buffalo where there are many restaurants and stores. The river is slow moving, especially through the marsh between Red Arrow Highway and the city’s boat launch. It is easy to paddle both downstream and upstream.
I hope you can make it.
